I have now signed myself up to Karate. About time i started feeling good about myself. I need to get the confidence back. Stop procrastinating and get on with life.

Apparently I have lost an amount of visible weight. Wondering if eating more will assist or just eating the right foods. I felt the slight weight I did have hanging off me wasn't comfortable. So my goal now is to be very fit looking and feeling great with myself and show the confidence. No use being six foot tall walking around with a smirk on your face if you have nothing to back it up. I know I can walk anywhere right now without a problem. Last week I was down at North Haven. Just down the road from there you will find North Brother Mountain. A great challange. Except when an impending thunder storm is on its way. Life is all about taking risks. We take one every time we drive a car or walk accross the road.

Vic is a wonderful guide. I feel he can adjust to any situation. I find it unfortunate the other climbers except for Kelly are too unsure of themselves to change to another guide incase of an accident or an unforseen situation where they will have another guide. Variety is sometimes the necessaty of life.

This week is Christmas break for many people and I am looking forward to creating strategies for raising funds for this climb. PLus Growing financially.

While I remember. I caught my first fish in seven and a half years. Took care of dinner for the first night down south.

Til next time,
Brian

You do remember I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in March. Leaving on the 9th March and getting back around the 24th. Not a great deal to write about.

However, Today the team gathered at Cunninghams Gap to walk to Eagle Head Lookout. I tried to tell them that it was a 4.5 to 5 huour walk. Somehow everyone was to busy talking to understand. Unfortunately I had walked this track before with the SWAP team of hikers. I knew what we were in for except for the extra vegetation that had grown and fallen over the track. Plus, when I walked with the SWAPpers it was a dry track.

Lessons were soon learned, when people started to get hungry and were not prepared for such a long trek. I had made sure I had fruit. I wanted to ensure plenty of water, we just didn't stop for when I requested on the way. Each person was surprised when I kept saying the same thing. "I have walked this before and it is not an hour and a half to the end and back"

The greatest trouble I had was the information board. You need to be able to read it and establish the difference between the number of klm's to the destination, and the number of klm's for a circuit. Remembering you will need to walk back from the destination. Double it!!!

Surprise... We had some very hungry and dehydrated people by the time we made it back to the bottom. The surprising thing is I noticed some of the people did not drink enough water on the track. They were the ones who were the most ill. Can't tell those who will not listen.

One of the main things I found frustrating is the blind climbers who decided not to use a white cane of stick to assist locating rocks, roots and other obstacles. This would have made it so much smoother a walk. Vic and I would have flowed much easier as a team except for the continual interuption of stopping for the blind climber who were getting a running commentary on ever step. I wasn't the only one commenting on how frustrating it was to watch the teams using that method.

I at one time suggested changing partners to give each person variety. Preparing for the possibility of anything walking Mount Kilimanjaro. You never know what will happen on the trip! That fell flat in my face, as objections were coming thick and fast from those who were worried.

At the end of the day. We were out in the fresh air and we had an exprience outside of the box. I think some of these blind climbers hadn't actually walked in the bush. OK, I hadn't myself, until the day at Lemington National Park(10.5 klm s of extreme walking) I find it very unfortunate with my observations that we as a team could not walk that. With anything I do around walking safety is the key to anything. I have experience with walking in the bush with sighted guides. Some of the people who guided me through Lemington hadn't guided me before. The only advice I gave to them is to walk and let me know of any over hanging branches or any roots and other obstructions. One fellow I had to tell to keep quiet as he wouldn't shut up. Describing every rock, branch, hole and even the sticks on the track. Please keep in mind a couple of these people hadn't even guided me through tables at the networking function. At one time I was asked "stop and not move. Please place your stick down to your left Brian" Not a thing. I was on a cliff. I gave a very heart felt thank you to the team of SWAPpers who attended the breakfast the week after.

I am off to bed. Remember, I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. This is a fundraiser for the Prevent Blindness Foundation www.pbf.org.au You may have to knock of the .au(try it)

The weekend is over. The gym Saturday morning. Climbing the wooden stairs on the Kangaroo Point Cliffes Sunday. This time I had three cans of difino plus a bottle of water in the back pack.

That is what I needed, extra weight. And that's what I will be doing from no on. Adding weight each time increasing. I have a couple of six kg weights I can use. I felt it in the shoulders this time. At one time the right shoulder was giving me some greif. Then I realised I was contnually on the left side of the stairs going down and up. So I started to alternate left and right.

I will be off to the gym agin some time this week.

While I remember. Donations.

Mike O'Hagan Owner of MiniMovers is still the leadr and has donated $1,000.

Margaret Cusak comes second with a donation of $100. And an unknown through Bpay has donated $20. I am not sure who you are, however, thank you so much.
Till next time,
brian

Verry early. I was actually riding a bike well befor I usually get out of bed.

Although I must say it was a good feeling when we got moving. The ting about a tandem bike is you do not have the ability to get up off the seat and peddle with force. The reason being that both of you can't peddle on the same rotation of the peddles. The peddles on the front are at a different position then the rear. Interesting.

The main thing is we made it out the other side without any scratches. Except the bruises on my rear end.

We also made it in the community a4 newsletter. Plus the Beaudesert Gazzette was there too. Photoes and news stories again.

I will be checking up on the progress of fundraising and adding the names to this blog.

Till next time.

The funny thing is Vic and I haven't been able to spend time on a tandem bike bfore. This will be an experience.

Bruce also dropped off one of his Kick bikes for Vic to ride and assist in getting his butt into shape. A Kick Bike is the adults version of a kids scooter.

Today I tackled Jacobs Ladder by myself. Took the time to count the steps. Not individually, in their groups. All up thereare around 240 steps from top to bottom and back up top again.

I took 10 coins with me. This way I wouldn't lose count! Easy enough to do. I didn't want to just walk up and down and not know when I felt I had done enuough. I set a goal of twenty times with weight on my back. An extra couple of kilo made it a little more challanging compaired to normal. One thing about having to do it this way. I couldn't put the bag down somewhere and expect to pick it up sometime later. I am not saying I couldn't trust the people that were walking around at the time. I can't afford to leave things laying around.

My going to Jacobs Ladder by myself showed to Vic I am determined to achieve the summit. I won't achieve it if I do not work on my capacity to walk the distance. trouble is the days are coming so humid. You need to get out of bed so damn early. I will probably go Tuesday. Just remembered I can't do that. I am speaking at a business club about the importance of relationships with your customers and clients in this horific economic climate.

Well, Vic and I attacked the steps at Kangaroo Point again. After Vic assisting the Amboes with a possible bike rider who had been knocked out with a suspected kneck injury.

After walking up and down around five times you really know you are doing something out of the ordinary. Now in saying that that is what the whole exercise is all about. I am looking forward to the Mount Kilimanjaro trek. Although I am a little unsure of the plane flight. The suggestion is to sleep on the way over. I don't sleep that well. I think I am going to try and be exorsted for the flight. Sitting up right and trying to sleep, crazy.

Yes, the gym is still one of the things I won't give up. Physique is the motivation. I will lose some weight on the way up and down. However, I feel I need to be physically strong in the process. Plus, I am going to look damn good when I get down. Possible well before I get going.

Heard word last night we will be leaving AUSTRALIA on the 9th and returning on the 21st March. Hopefully before the wet season starts.

Vic and I had a raletively early night Saturday evening to hear some music. Harder to find decent music these days.
Sunday, we were at the Kangaroo Point cliffs. I found the concrete steps too difficult due to the randomness. I had a great deal of trouble with them. Plus we were holding up the running traffic. I felt it was a good experience for both Vic and myself. After a short walk we discovered the timber steps further down. Much easier and safer. People were able to move around us and keep going at their own pace. Vic is pushing to lose some weight by having shakes and exercising. I think it is paying off. We are both looking forward to the climb. Knowing it is still less then five months away.

I think the most frustrating thing is waiting for people to return their promise to sponsor or donate. However, life must go on. I haven't given up and am really starting to look outside of the norm to find the willing Companies/Businesses.

Sarah has been kind enough to place my Western Red Cedar Vase Shaped Bowl up on Ebay. Using the Vase as an example to the other Round Table participants how it is done. The Vase Shaped Bowl I created on the laithe. The timber planks were lovingly laminated and left for a week for the glue to dry. Then came the day to start on the shape. The interesting thing about laithe work is the shape can change from the starting of rounding off the block to that damn scratch you can't get out. But I enjoy the work. The time I spend at the wood working shop is my time to be creative and work with my hands. Two bowls were carved to create the vase shape. The first one was shallower and I placed a scroll chuck in there. This way I can turn the rounded block andcarve out the other side, plus the outside. Once I am satisfied with the shape and taper. This I work out by placing the other rounded block against my work and use my amagination as to the general shape in which it will look like. Once I am happy with the top. I start on the bottom. This will look like a standard bowl. Keeping in mind the taper and desired shape of the vase. My goal was to ensure the diameter of the inside matched up as close as possible. This way I don't have to sand out as much. remembering that I have laminated five or six planks of timber. Gluing two bowls toger to make them line up is difficult enough. In consultating with the supervisor we agreed not to try and line them up at all.

I will add more onto this blog at another time.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/23639516-8991041129277245504?l=brianjh.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

लेट थे ट्रेनिंग begin

I with 13 othr vision impaired persons will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. However, I feel for us it will be something we won't forget for a long time.

Vic and I have already started on the preperation trail. Climbing Mt Coot-tha the week before last. Utilising Jacobs Ladder in Spring Hill. Now I am on the hunt for an escolator that does not have a great deal of walking traffic on the weekends. This I am sure I will find.

I have just very recently worked out how to use Blogger. So I will be updating the information on a more regular basis.

I had the pleasure of driving around the lakeside Racway Track outside of Narangba on the weekend of the election. Unfortunately I was in a Susuki Swift. Manual of course. I would of rather a larger car. This ws something I haven't done for a long time. I have been out at the race track a couple of times to watch drags or the V8s.

Driving is something I have missed for such a long time. These were dual control vehicles forom a variety of driving training companies who operate in Brisbane.

Enjoyed the day and so did a large number of people from the vision impaired community.

Woohoo

One floor up. Better view. Looking forward to making an effort to adding new content on a regular basis.

I will be adding a video of myself soon. This will outline who I am and how I am losing my sight.
Till then.
